As a result of a preliminary examination carried out by BLS, Stadtwerke Schwerin GmbH was planning to participate in the balancing energy market. For this purpose, three electric boilers with a total capacity of 15 MW electric/thermal were installed.
The so-called negative secondary control power could be provided using the boilers. Heat was produced using the electric energy obtained. In combination with the available hot water tank it was used in the district heat network. The electric boilers are integrated in the hydraulic and electric systems of the Heat and Power Plant-South in Schwerin, Wüstemark South.
At the preliminary stage, BLS Energieplan GmbH carried out a profitability calculation. During this, the participation of the Stadtwerke Schwerin GmbH in the balancing energy market was simultated with negative secondary control power using an electric boiler unit with a 15 MW capacity.
